Leaving the Pressure at the Door

I remember what it felt like to pick up a guitar for the first time. It can be intimidating! When you step into my studio, my first priority is to take all that pressure off your shoulders. My teaching environment is quiet, family-friendly, and completely focused on making music accessible to you.

What Actually Happens on Day One

During our first session, we won’t dive into heavy music theory or complex scales. I want you to feel comfortable holding the instrument first.

What to expect: We will go over the anatomy of the guitar, how to hold your pick without dropping it into the soundhole, and a simple mnemonic to memorize the string names (Eddie Ate Dynamite, Good Bye Eddie is a classic). I will also teach you how to tune the guitar yourself, which is the most important skill a beginner can learn.

Where we start: My goal is to have you playing actual music before you leave. I love starting adult beginners with the iconic single-note riff from “Smoke on the Water” or “Sunshine of Your Love.” It gets your fingers moving on the fretboard immediately and sounds instantly recognizable.
